What About Physician Referrals?
The majority of patients come to us after referral from their physician. Remember, you get to choose your physical therapist, so ask for the professionals at Western Pennsylvania Sports Medicine. However, state
law now allows a physical therapist who meets certain experience and continuing education standards and who is specifically certified by the
State to evaluate and treat a patient without a physician referral. All of the experienced professionals at Western Pennsylvania Sports Medicine meet
these requirements and can evaluate and treat your condition without a
physician referral.

What Is "Direct Access"?
State law no longer requires a physician referral before we can treat you. If you don’t have a physician, you can come directly to us for an assessment of your injury, condition and treatment for up to 30 days. For many patients, we have provided referrals to physicians who can further diagnose your problem and refer you back for therapy, if indicated. Remember, you get to choose your therapist, so ask for the professionals at Western Pennsylvania Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic.
